Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :

AUDIO AMP + 3KHz FILTER
This circuit is the audio amp section for a complete optical transmitter.   The circuit amplifies and filters the voice audio signals from an electret microphone.  The circuit is described in more detail in the receiver section of Dave Johnson's Handbook of Optical Through the Air Communications

Digital Volume Control:  This circuit could be used for replacing your manual volume control in a stereo amplifier. In this circuit, push-to-on switch S1 controls the forward (volume increase) operation of both channels while a similar switch S2 controls reverse (volume decrease) operation of both channels.  A readily available IC from Dallas semiconductor, DS1669 is used here.….  (added 10/05)

Dual Microphones Separate Voice from Noise:  06/23/94 EDN-Design Ideas / (added 4/02) The circuit in Fig 1 uses a pair of microphones to extract a voice from a noisy background. You must mount electret microphones X1 and X2 on the left and right sides of the user's chest. Sound sources not equidistant from the microphones experience a phase shift. Because sound travels at 1120 ft/sec, the maximum phase shift for this design's mounting scheme is about 0.5 msec. This phase shift corresponds to a 90 degrees phase shift at about 1000 Hz. Thus, all sounds in the vocal frequency range, except the user's voice, tend to cancel....
