Electronic attenuator -  Two low voltage, low power zeners are used to control electronically the level of an audio signal. The attenuation range is from 6 to 58dB for an input current from 0.042 to 77mA corresponding to a control voltage from 2.7 to 7.5V. If control voltage is limited to 5V, the attenuation is around 30dB at a control current of 2mA.  This is not an HiFi attenuator but might come useful as a general purpose audio attenuator.... OpAmp Linearizes Attenuator Control Response -  07/25/02 EDN-Design Ideas:   Professional-audio equipment commonly uses Analog Devices' (www.analog.com]high-performance, quad-voltage-controlled SSM2164 attenuator. The control response is -30 dB/V, with 0V producing unity gain. Attenuation increases as the applied....[Design Idea added 12/04] EDN migrating links. Precision Attenuator With Digital Control -  When instruments are designed, an analogue front end is essential. Further, as most equipment have digital or microcontroller interface, the analog circuit needs to have digital control/access. The circuit described here is that of a programmable attenuator with digital control - which can be a remote dip switch, or CMOS logic outputs.... [the designer is not given]

Precision divide by two analog attenuator needs no external components -  03/17/05 EDN Design Ideas    Many modern A/D converters offer only a 5V input range, and using these converters with a 65V or larger input signal gives the designer a problem: how to discard half of a good analog signal without introducing errors and distortion. To solve the problem, you can use an attenuator comprising two operational amplifiers and two resistors (Figure 1)....
