Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :
  • Operation of Cascode Light Receivers -  This page provides a detailed explanation of how the modified cascode light receiver circuit operates. The cascode technique in conjunction with an inductive load provides very high current to voltage conversion as well as very high speed . . . [Hobby Circuit designed by David A. Johnson P.E.,  02/15/02]

  • Optical Filter using Color Film Negative -  This isn’t an electronic circuit but the file shows the curve for an optical filter made from exposed color film. The material blocks most visible light but is very transparent to 880nM infrared light. Kodak 100ASA is exposed to "cool white" fluorescent light for about 5 seconds . . . [Hobby Circuit designed by David Johnson P.E.,  01/01/98]

  • Optical RFID Test Circuit -  I designed this test the concept of using light techniques to send identification data instead of RF. A more detailed discussion on this scheme can be found in the Imagineered new products section . . . [Circuit by David Johnson P.E.,  02/11/02]

  • Piezoelectric Tap Switch -  This circuit uses a flat piezo wafer, glued inside a plastic box, as a finger tap sensor. With each tap of a finger to the box holding the wafer, the circuit turns on and off AC or DC power to an external device. The circuit is powered by a 9v battery . . . [Circuit by David A. Johnson P.E.,  12/07/10]

PC Infrared Remote Control #1 -  This page gives some information on a PC based IR remote control system I've developed for computer control of TV, video, satellite and hifi equipment etc. I have used an IBM compatible, so the software here is for such a machine, however I guess that it is straightforward (perhaps easier) to implement this on another type of machine. . . .  [Chris Dodge (cdodge AT awi-bremerhaven.de)]

PC IR Remote Control Hardware -  Infrared based electronic circuit diagrams / circuit schematics. . .

PCB for Mark 5 IR Extender -  The latest addition to my collection of Infra Red (IR) Repeater circuits. The Mark 5 is a much improved version of the Mark 1 circuit and has increased range and sensitivity. It is also immune to the effects ofambient light, daylight and other forms of interference. In addition it works with IR modulation freuencies in the range 30 to 120kHz making the Mk5 circuit the best choice for compatibility with remote controls. . .  [Andy Collison's design]

Project to capture infrared remote control signals and play them back, based on Atmel ATMEGA48 micro -  Infrared based electronic circuit diagrams / circuit schematics. . .

Pyroelectric Infrared (PIR) Sensor -  Tells how Pyroelectric sensors and Fresnel lenses are used in motion detectors. (same as sensor manual above) . . .  [free schematic from Golab.com]
