Optical Tachometer Provides BiDirectional Info -  05/21/98 EDN-Design Ideas....Many systems, especially communications, require AGC that functions at 50 MHz. Self-calibrating systems, such as automatic test equipment, need this high-frequency response but also require digital control of the AGC output voltage. During the calibration cycle, the test equipment calculates the AGC output voltage necessary to achieve....file has several circuits, pleaas scroll to find this one.... [Design Idea by Stephen Woodward, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill]
PC-Based DC Motor Speed Controller -  (circuit / schematic design added 6/06)
Programming the Automatic Fan Speed Control Loop -  AN-613 Analog Devices Application Note....[App Note]
Simple circuit measures diesel's rotations per minute -  03/04/99 Issue of EDN  You may find it useful to measure a diesel engine's rotations per minute to accurately adjust the idling or to compare the motor's speed under hot and cold conditions, for example. Not all cars or trucks come with a tachometer. The scheme in Figures 1 and 2 allows you to measure....Page includes several designs.  Scroll to find this one....(EDN  Design Ideas] [Design Idea by David Magliocco, CDPI, Scientrier, France]

Speed Limit Alarm -  (circuit added 9/04)
Tachometer Circuit -  A simple tachometer circuit using one NPN transistor. (12/04/2007)

Tachometer Demodulator has Fast Response Time -  12/07/95 EDN-Design Ideas....When a tachometer is a critical part of overspeed-shutdown circuitry, the response time of conventional demodulators may be too long. The circuit in the block diagram in Figure 1 provides updated speed data. The circuit provides corrections for variations in excitation amplitude and frequency at every excitation half-cycle. The circuit is independent of processors and, therefore, immune to softwareand bus-related failures.... EDN is migrating links. This link is not verified.  Google the "title" EDN for new link.
Tachometer for Bikes (circuit) -  Here are some instructions how to connect the Tachometer version II to a single cylinder. (design added 3/07)
Tachometer/RPM -  Easy to build using only a few components. With some modifications, it can be used in an automovil.  This Tachometer uses a PIC 16F628.(design added 06/04)
Tachometer/RPM II -  This is an improved version of the Tachometer created specially to measure up to 9,999 RPM. Uses a PIC 16F628. (added schematic 04/06)
Versatile digital speedometer uses few components -  12-May-05 Issue of EDN  Microcontroller, display, and sensor form digital speed readout.... [Design Idea by Abhishek Jain, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Dwarka, New Delhi, India; Edited by Brad Thompson]
Wireless Auto Tachometer (Aaron Cake) -  (electronic schematic / circuit added 04/03/02)
