CCO Metal Detector -  The metal detector shown here has, in concept, been widely recognised as a new genre. The general concept, of which I have developed three embodiments, is capable in principle of matching the performance of an Induction Balance (IB) metal detector.... [Copyright Rev. Thomas Scarborough]
CD strobe scope -  This is a strobe scope. The disc is rotating but it looks still.  (added 10/05)
CDV700 Geiger Counter Probe Rebuilding -  This article describes the process of rebuilding a geiger counter probe from the Victoreen CDV700 geiger counter. The process of converting the hard-wired probe to a probe with a pluggable BNC connector is also described. The probe from the model CDV700-6B is similar, but not identical, the socket is easier to access on that model. [Circuit Design by Forrest Cook]
Cell Cycler Sorting Sires Superior Batteries -  06/23/94 EDN-Design Ideas....To assemble superior NiCd batteries, you need to form and match  individual cells making up a battery. First, formation takes place in a NiCd .... EDN is migrating links. This link is not verified.  Search the "title" + "EDN" for new link.
Cheap and easy inductance tester uses few components -  12-Apr-07 Issue of EDNThis circuit plus a frequency counter or oscilloscope measures unmarked inductors.... [Design Idea by Al Dutcher, Consulting Engineer, Paulsboro, NJ; Edited by Charles H Small and Brad Thompson]

Cheap Electrostatic Discharge Tester -  Anyone who has ever had a shocking experience on an especially dry day is acutely aware of the kinds of high voltage that can be generated from a simple walk across a carpeted floor. Those same finger to metal sparks can destroy or disrupt sensitive electronic circuits. Good design practices take great care to avoid such potential disasters by maintaining sufficient insulation between metal or plastic enclosure parts and the electronics within or by shielding any especially sensitive components.... [Hobby Corner Circuit by Dave Johnson]
Cheap Light Power Meter -  Some time ago I was experimenting with the use of some low leakage photovoltaic solar cells, to harvest some energy from the diffuse lighting inside a room.  The plan was to use a small array of solar cells (the type often used on solar powered calculators) to keep a super capacitor charged, drawing power from the light within an inside room.... [Hobby Corner Circuit by Dave Johnson]
Cheap Pushbutton replaces Rotary Switch -  26-Oct-00 Issue of EDN-Design Ideas....The problem of setting any one of four modes of aµC-operated process has a straightforward solution  Have theµC check the states of some 4 bits of aµC.… [Design Idea by Abel Raynus, Armatron International Inc, Melrose, MA]
Christmas Lights Tester -  Like every year around the same time, I hurried to get my Christmas tree all set up and the first thing we do when the tree is 'standing' we like to hang the lights in the tree. Okay, better first test them before putting all 50 of them in the tree. Yep! Working beautifully. I started a carefully planned organization of the lights so they would be evenly divided over the branches. Now the second string of lights, tested, yep working. In the tree with them. Putting the plugs into the receptacle and....oh no-- one series of them are on in full glory, all the others are out. Annoyed I tried to 'fix them' by trying to push each bulb further into their sockets. Still no go.…. [written by Jan Hamer]
Circuit Adapts Signals for Visual Perception -  10/12/95 EDN-Design Ideas....First, the display would extend brief periods of change in logic states to a period long enough for the eye to perceive (Fig 1a). For example, if a signal is at logic high and switches to logic low for a period of 100 nsec and then returns to a high state, the period of the low-state signal is too short for the eye to perceive. The logic-low period should.... [Design Idea by Paul Johnson, Qualcomm Inc, Escondido, CA]
