Distance measurement

hi...
I'm new here ,so if something is wrong please correct me
i want to make r get a set of sender and receiver and know whether the receiver is moving towards or away from the sender

I don't have to actually measure the distance but just whether it is moving towards or away.

How close and how far are the two objects? What is the maximum speed of distance change?

If the two are close, an ultrasonic method works well.
