Sort Out the Highest Voltage -  11/09/06  EDN Design Idea   Greatest-of-three voltage detector drives indicators and external display. . .  [by Ezio Rizzo, Nova SNC, Genoa, Italy, and Vincenzo Pronzato, Felmi SRL, Genoa, Italy]

Sound Blaster Microphone Preamplifier -  . . .

Sound Blaster Microphone Preamplifier -  Dynamic microphones can be connected to SoundBlaster if a suitable microphone preamplifier is built which can amplify the signal levels from dynamic microphones so much that they give enough level for SoundBlaster. This amplification can be quite easily done using simple single transistor microphone preamplifier circuit. .

Sound Blaster Preamp -  Fixes that well known problem and needs no batteries . . .  [Circuit by Stepan Novotill]

Sound Card -  STMicroelectronics-Application. . .

Sound Card Based Signal Generators -  Previously, E-DSP visited the possibility of using your sound card as a signal/function generator. I was curious about the results, but did not have a Windows machine close by to test it. After some searching, I found a Linux alternative and was able to test the limitations of my Sound Blaster Live!. . .

Sound Card Interface with Tone Keyer -  This is an improved version of the audio interface commonly used to connect a computer soundcard to a transceiver's receive and transmit audio circuits. This kind of interface is used by computer programs that send and receive SSTV, RTTY, CW, PSK31 and various other digital modes entirely in software. Soundcard interfaces are not data controllers, TNCs, decoders. . .

Soundcard Joystick Port Problem Solver -  Typical PC soundcards (for example Sound Blaster family) has added MIDI interface to the joystick connector by using pin 12 for MIDI output and pin 15 for MIDI input. This causes sometimes problems with some joysticks and adapters which work pefectly on standard joystick port. The following conversion circuit enables standard joystick Y-cables. . .

SPDIF RCA to (Optical + RCA) Adapter -  . . .

SPI Flash MicroController Programmer V3.7 -  new hardware and software for programming 89Sxx and AVR chips. Designed by Mohammad Asim Khan. . . .  [Wichit Sirichote, designer]

SPI Interface Big 7-Seg LED -  Easy build and use, the general purpose Big LED with SPI serial interfacing. Expandable for multiple digits but still uses only three wires for receiving data from any uC boards. . .  [Wichit Sirichote, designer]

SPI2CF, a fast and efficient WLAN interface for the AVR -  Microcontroller based electronic circuit. . .

Steam Sound -  . . .  [Collin Mitchell's web site]

Stepper motor controller -  . . .  [by IQ Technologies Industry, unless otherwise noted online]

Stepper motor controller for PC parallel port -  . . .

Stepping Motor Driver -  Minimalist circuit uses one CMOS gate and is reversible . . .  [Circuit by Stepan Novotill]

STK 500 Development board -  Control AVR microcontrollers via Visual Basic  software. You can use some development board like  MCU 100, STK200, STK500 or build your own  board,  following the schematic. . .

STK200/STK300 ISP Header  -  Pin diagram of STK200/STK300. Note for MEGA103 ISP signal. . . .  [Wichit Sirichote, designer]

Storage Area Network SAN -  Application Block Diagram. . .  [Intersil]

Storage Cd -  Fairchild App Note. . .

Student DC power supply -  Build a simple DC supply having three output terminals: regulated +5VDC, unregulated +10VDC and 7. 5VAC. The supply is suitable for microcontroller experimenting. . . .  [Wichit Sirichote, designer]

Substituting the RC5051 for the RC5050/ AB-10 -  Fairchild App Note. . .

Summary of Well Known Interface StandarDS -  Designing an interface between systems is not a simple or straight-forward task. Parameters that must be taken into account include: data rate, data format, cable length, mode of transmission, termination,  . . .  [National Semiconductor]

Sun Type 5 keyboard on the PC -  Presented here is a simple micro-controller device that will talk to the Sun keyboard and the PC's keyboard interface and convert between the two. You can now throw away those nasty cheap PC keyboards and use a real keyboard on your PC. While the original schematics seem to indicate that it converts the Sun mouse to a serial PC mouse, it does not work for me. . .  [Jonathan A. Buzzard]

Sunvisor-integrated GPS navigator -  We decided not to get the built-in GPS navigation for the Mini Cooper because it is awfully expensive and from the reviews, it looks like it isn't very good. I commited myself to install a TomTom navigator in the car, and it should be better, cheaper, and should look like a factory option. . . .  [Roberto Barrios EB4EQA]

Supervise and Power-Sequence An SOC -  05/13/10 EDN Design Idea   Microprocessors, microcontrollers, and SOCs (systems on chips) often need a reset pulse to initialize properly. Many of these devices also use separate I/O- and core-voltage supplies. When you use multiple supplies, you must turn . . .  [by Eric Schlaepfer, Maxim Integrated Products, Sunnyvale, CA]

Suppressing MOSFET Gate Ringing in Converters: Selection of a Gate Resistor/ AB-9 -  Fairchild App Note. . .

S-video to composite video adapter -  This simple adapter can be used to convert Y/C video (S-video) to a composite video. This adapter is useful in cases where your video output device has only S-video output but your signal source accepts only composite video input. This circuit works with both PAL and NTSC video standards. . . .  [Tomi Engdahl's web]

Switch Debouncer -  This circuit will remove the transient spikes and contact bounces from a non-latching push button switch. . .  [Circuit Design by Andy Collison]

Switching RGB Video between Monitor & TV using Pi5V330 -  Application Brief # 010. . .  [Pericom Semiconductor]

SWTP PR-40 Printer Interface Schematics -  . . .

Synchronizing Controller detects baud rate -  03/02/98 EDN Design Idea   A simple and inexpensive implementation using an eight-pin 12C508 controller(Microchip Technology, Chandler, AZ] provides both bit-rate detection and a synchronous, appended-clock output from an asynchronous input-data stream(Figure 1a]. File contains many circuits, please scroll to find this one. . .  [by William Grill, Riverhead Systems, Littleton, CO]

System Level Design Considerations When Using I2c Serial EEPROM Devices -  Application Note Published 29-Jul-04. . .  [Microchip]

System's real-time clock "hides" a code sequence -  10/27/05  EDN Design Idea   Keep key code sections protected from prying users. . .  [by Mihaela Costin, Delmhorst Instruments, Towaco, NJ]
