Combination Digital Lock -  A multiple input combination loack using CMOS counter IC's.  Flexibility and code change is allowed by changing output connections.   __ Designed by Andy Collison

Combination Lock -  Combination lock are nice to enable alarms, but are useful for controlling a wide range of electric devices.  These software keys can open gates, garages, TV sets, telephones, VCRs, well pumps  In practice this circuit is capable to lock or time all the devices that can be connected to relays.   __ Designed by Projects & Ideas from Nutchip.com

Combination Locks -  This circuit uses 4013 D-type bi-stable flip-flops  (D stands for data) .  Each flip-flop has a data input and a clock input.  The voltage applied to the input is transferred to the Q output at the instant when the clock input goes from 0 to 1.   (We say these flip-flops are "edge-triggered".) Switches 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the switches which form the code and any number of "wrong" switches can be connected, in parallel, at the point shown.   __ Designed by © David Hoult

Combination Lock -  a digital lock with keypadenter the correct code to operate a solenoid.  Based around ua3731 __ Contact: P. Townshend EduTek Ltd

Combination Lock2 -  a digital lock with switches.  A nifty circuit i'm chuffed with, based around just 2 logic ics! __ Contact: P. Townshend EduTek Ltd

Connect a 4×3 matrix keyboard to a microcontroller using two I/O pins -  05/08/13  EDN-Design IdeasTo connect a 4×3 keyboard requires seven digital I/O pins.  This becomes a problem when the project is based on a low-pin-count MCU or when the MCU being used does not have enough free I/O pins.   Design by Aruna Rubasinghe

Connecting a Globe using a PIC16c509 -  Scroll to find this circuit #8 -A globe is a device that requires a very high start-up current.  This is something you may not be aware of.  The start-up or warm-up current for a globe is about 6 times its operating current and although this current is drawn for only a very short period of time, it is one of the reasons why a globe does not work in some circuits.  The high start-up current prevented one of our flip-flop circuits working.  The resistance of the leads from the project to the battery was sufficient to prevent the circuit starting-up.  That's why it is important to remember everything we discuss.   __ Contact: Colin Mitchell

Connecting a Motor using a PIC16c509 -  Scroll to find this circuit #11In theory you can connect a motor to two drive-lines and get forward and reverse operation.  But unfortunately a motor requires a very high start-up current and the drive lines of a '508A are not capable of delivering this current.  The solution is to use transistor buffers in the bridge arrangement of fig: 16.   __ Contact: Colin Mitchell

Connecting LED to PIC Micro I/O Pins -  So, you’ve got a great idea for a project using a PICmicro microcontroller and you want to use at least one LED in your project as a power indicator.  Or, maybe, you’ve set out to design a bar-graph voltmeter with eight LEDs, __ Sirus MicroSystems

Connecting PIC12c508 8 to 93AA46 Serial Eprom -  Schematic only, no circuit description__ Dave Helton, KD0YU

Conntecting a Relay using a PIC16c509 -  Scroll to find this circuit #9Most relays require more than 25mA for operation and need a 12v supply.  For this a buffer transistor is required.  Fig: 14 shows how a relay is connected to an output of the '508A.  The diode across the relay prevents voltage from the relay getting into any of the supply lines and affecting the operation of the microprocessor.   __ Contact: Colin Mitchell

Control ratiometric or simultaneous power-up of multiple rails -  05/13/04  EDN-Design IdeasMany applications use FPGAs, ASICs, or DSP chips, which usually require multiple voltage rails, typically twothe core voltage and the I/O voltage.  The core voltage is usually lower than the I/O voltage.  Guidelines for determining Design by Dirk Gehrke, Texas Instruments, Freising, Germany

Control Room Light Intensity Digitally -  11-Nov-04 EDN-Design IdeasMany people favor different light and temperature settings for different rooms depending upon their mood or whether they are working or relaxing.  The circuit in Figure 1 controls the intensity of the artificial light in a room and  Design by Donal McNamara and Kieran Kelly Analog Devices, Limerick, Ireland

Controller for Christmas Light Shows, Pt.2 -  Everyone who has seen this has been pretty impressed and no wonder! While we originally intended it to make your Christmas Lights display the best in your suburb, with up to 32 channels and total power limited only by your power outlets, it's capable of controlling just about any lighting sequencing task you want to throw at it.  Now we get on with the good stuff: putting it all together!__ SiliconChip

Controller for Christmas Light Shows, Pt.3 -  Christmas is just about here! Have you got your Digital Lighting Controller ready yet? In the first two articles we explained how the Digital Lighting Controller works and how to build it.  This third article explains how to use the softwareprimarily the Windows-based sequencing program.__ SiliconChip

Controlling Relays with Logic Voltages -  The schematic below illustrates 4 methods of controlling a relay with a digital logic signal.  Figure  (A) can probably be used in most cases where the relay coil requires 100 mA or less and the input current is 2 milliamps or more.  The resistor value  (R) is determined from the input voltage and the available current.  For example, a 5 volt input signal supplying 2 milliamps would require  (5-.7) /.002 = 2150 ohms, or a 2.2K standard value.   __ Designed by Bill Bowden

Convert Between TTL & Shifted ECL -  08/15/96 EDN-Design IdeasThe bidirectional circuit in Figure 1 translates TTL to shifted ECL  (SECL].  There are currently no IC's available that perform this type of level translation.  SECL levels correspond to either ECL or PECL referenced to a VCC of 2V  Design by Sylvia Planer and Paul Sofianos, Motorola LICD, Chandler, AZ

Correlator Works In Presence Of Noise -  20-Mar-03 EDN-Design IdeasMany precision test-and-measurement and high-speed analog applications require an exact targeted voltage to be delivered to the device under test or intended load to accurately analyze the device.  Design and test engineers are well-aware that this goal is sometimes unattainable, because the impedance across the traces delivering the signal to the load alters the original signal Design by John Charlton,  Lancaster, CA

Crazy Cricket or Freaky Frog -  Love the sound of crickets and frogs  (and who doesn't) ? Maybe you will revise your judgement after exposure to Crazy or Freakythe  (very) pesky cricket and equally annoying grenouille.__ SiliconChip

Creating a Security Wiring for an Alarm using a PIC16c509 -  Scroll to find this circuit #10 -When designing an alarm project, the wiring between the sensors and the control panel must not be able to be cut otherwise the alarm system is useless! Making the wiring FULLY SECURE is very complex but a simple way to prevent the wires being cut or joined together  (without detection) involves a line-sensing feature called LINE REVERSAL __ Contact: Colin Mitchell
