Light a white LED from half a cell -  12-Jun-03 Issue of EDN  Whether you use them as indicators or to provide illumination, LEDs are hard to beat in efficiency, reliability, and cost. White LEDs are rapidly gaining popularity as sources of illumination, as in LCD backlights, but with forward voltages typically ranging from 3 to 5V, operating them from a single cell presents obvious difficulties..... [Design Idea by Anthony Smith, Scitech, Biddenham, Bedfordshire, UK]
Light bulb timer -  The circuit is rather small and could be housed in the same case as the push button, if there is enough room. Of course you have to substitute the standard switch with a push button. Operation with a 110Vac mains has not been tested although I expect that a 100μF 100V capacitor instead of the 47μF capacitor should do the trick.....(circuit added 03/09)
Light Bulb Voltage Regulator  -  .....
Light Chaser -  (electronic circuit added 7/03)
Light Control System -  ….
Light Controlled Switch -  output a control signal suitable for relay depending on the light level (added 4/02)
Light Dimmer Circuit with 0 to 10 Volt Input -  This is a simple dimmer circuit that can be controlled with0 -10 VDC. It is designed for110-Volt AC. (added 4/02)
Light Organ for Car -  flashes3 low voltage lights, operates at10-25-Volt voltage, in PDF format, text in Finnish (added 4/02)
Light switch -  ….....
Light/Dark Detector -  This handy little circuit can tell the difference between darkness and light, making it very useful for switching on and off signs, porch lights or other things when it gets dark or light…. [Aaron Cake's design]
Lighting System -  how to inexpensive, portable lighting system that add a great deal of ambiance to the music performance, includes simple controller circuit (added 4/02)
Lightkeeper Automotive Lighting Control Module -  Microchip Application Note Published 27-Mar-02  (app note added 2/06)
Lights Control for Model Cars -  ….must register on this site.... [Published in Elecktor July/August 2010]
Lights timer -  Automatically turn off the lights after 10 minutes. If you often forget to turn off the lights outside or at different places in the house, this circuit can be practical for you. It can control two independent light switches with different turn off times. Press the button once and the light turns on for the preset time. Press again, and the light remains on forever. Press for the third time, and the light turns off.....(design added 05/09) [Peter Jakab, Electrical Engineer, Engineer of Informatics]
Line Powered White LEDs -  The LED circuit above is an example of using 25 white LEDs in series connected to the 120VAC line. It can be modified for more or less LEDs by changing the R value. The exact resistance value will depend on the particular LEDs used. In operation, a DC voltage of around 170 is produced from the bridge rectifier and 50uF capacitor. The capacitor value is not critical.....(electronic circuit added 1/06) [Bill Bowden design this one]
Linear Constant Current LED Lamp Dimmer -  This circuits drives24 white light LEDs with an adjustable constant current. (added 4/02)
Linear-brightness controller for LEDs has 64 tapsLinear-brightness controller for LEDs has 64 taps -  15-Mar-07 Issue of EDN  Digital potentiometer controls the brightness of LEDs..... [Design Idea by Ahmad Ayar, Maxim Integrated Products, Sunnyvale, CA; Edited by Brad Thompson and Charles H Small]
Loudspeaker Protection & Muting  -  Many hi-fi amplifiers and professional power amps (and loudspeaker systems) provide some of protection, either to protect the speakers from an amp fault, and/or vice versa. Some of these are implemented at a very basic level, for example the use of a 'poly-switch'. The poly-switch is a non-linear resistor, having ….....
Low Cost Non-Dimming 220V Ballast Design/ AN-42001 -  Fairchild Application Notes / (app note added 6/06)
Low cost/ Automatic Emergency Light -  ….(electronic schematic added 08/08)
Low Power Crossing Light Flashers -  The following are Low Power - Grade Crossing Flasher circuits based on the LM555 and LM556 timer chips. They are designed to drive Light Emitting Diodes but could be used to drive low current incandesent lamps….. [from Rob Paisley's Model Train web site]
Low side PWM Motor/Light Controller -  These two schematics are variations on another PWM circuit that I designed. The diagrams are for 12V operation only and there are high side (common ground) and low side (common +12V) versions. The low side version of the circuit uses an N Channel FET, the high side version of the circuit uses a P Channel FET. N Channel devices tend to handle more current than P Channel devices, they are also less expensive. The high side version of the circuit is useful when one side of the load has to be grounded..... [Circuit Designed by G. Forrest Cook]
Low Voltage Light Dimmer -  A light dimmer is a means of controlling the "brightness" level of a lamp, in this application we will use a555 Timer to control the brightness level of a low voltage incandescent bulb of up to 60-Watts. For the light dimmer to work the555 Timer is configured as a "variable cycle", astable oscillator running some where around300 Hz......
Low-Cost Converter Drives Fluorescent Tubes -  03/31/94 EDN-Design Ideas.....In the last few months, several designers have published circuits for cold-cathode fluorescent-tube (CCFT]power supplies, and a specialized power-supply IC is also now available. However, a significant number of CCFT applications don't require..... EDN is migrating links. This link is not verified.  Search the "title" + EDN for new link.
Low-loss circuit powers solar lantern -  1-Apr-04 Issue of EDN  The solar-lantern circuit in Figure 1 is a low-loss configuration that uses a 7W, four-pin CFL (compact fluorescent lamp] and a 12V, 7-Ahr, sealed, maintenance-free battery. The inverter features greater-than-85% efficiency, less-than-2-mA quiescent current, and a shunt-charge controller with deep-discharge and overcharge protection for the battery..... [Design Idea by Ramsesh Kumar, Bangalore, India]
Low-voltage light dimmer -  The 555 timer "light dimmer" schematic circuit is shown in figure 1 below. For the light dimmer to work the 555 timer is configured as a "variable cycle", astable oscillator running some where around 300 Hz…. [Ian C. Purdie, VK2TIP]
Lx 800 Lighting System -  Light is always needed for theatre and live music, and this is just the ticket  (electronic circuit added 7/03)
