Serial port tests digital circuits -  25-Jun-09 Issue of EDN  The circuit in Figure 1 uses a MAX232 IC from Maxim to convert RS-232 voltage levels to TTL levels (Reference 1]..... [Design Idea by Yury Magda, Cherkassy, Ukraine]
Serial Port to MIDI Synthesizer Interface Cable -  (circuit / schematic design added 1/07)
Serial Port Utilities Implementing Table Read & Table Write -  Microchip Application Note Published 26-Aug-97  (app note added 06/06/06)
Shared memory interface eliminates arbitration -  08/01/96 EDN-Design Ideas  [Design Idea added 11/05] EDN is migrating links. This link is not verified.  Google the "title" EDN for new link.
Silent Fanless Computer Power Supply -  There are a few different ways of doing this but basically you have to make the heatsinks NOT live and you have to provide better cooling for the transistors. The heatsinks used in PSUs are generally soldered to the PCB via little metal tabs….(Circuit design added 11/08)
Simple 0 to 24 dB Gain Amplifier & Balanced Line Driver -  AS022 Jenson Transformer Application Note  (app note 04/03/02)
[ad-DAJ-FS-split.htm]
Simple AVR Programmers -  These are four different AVR programmers that can be controlled via standard ports of a PC.  (added 10/05)
Simple Can Node Using the Mcp2510 & Pic12c67x -  This application note describes the design, developmentand implementation of a smart, low cost, stand alone Controller Area Network (CAN) node. It combines the Microchip 8-pin PIC12C672 microcontroller and the Microchip 18-pin MCP2510 Stand-Alone CAN controller.... (Microchip App Note AN215 added 9/2008)
Simple circuits sort out the highest voltage -  9-Nov-06 Issue of EDN  Greatest-of-three voltage detector drives indicators and external display.... [Design Idea by Ezio Rizzo, Nova SNC, Genoa, Italy, and Vincenzo Pronzato, Felmi SRL, Genoa, Italy; Edited by Brad Thompson and Fran Granville]
Simple Efficient All-In-One USB Power Management Ic Solution -  Linear Technology offers a variety of devices that simplify converting power from a USB cable, but the LTC®3455 represents the highest level of functional integration yet achieved. The LTC3455 seamlessly  manages power flow between an AC adapter, USB cable.... (Linear Technology Design Note 1008 added 9/2008)
Simple fixture determines leakage of capacitors and semiconductor switches -  7-Jun-07 Issue of EDN  The low input-bias current of a voltage-follower op amp allows this simple fixture to measure the leakage current of capacitors and reverse-biased active devices.... [Design Idea by Marián Štofka, Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia]
Simple FSK modulator enables data transmission over low speed link -  11-Jun-09 Issue of EDN  Send digital data over a low-speed link.... [Design Idea by Israel Schleicher, Prescott Valley, AZ]
Simple Ft245 USB Oscilloscope for the PC  -  If you are thinking about adding a USB interface between your project and a PC, read on. Implementing USB is now easier than you think. Eddy Insam will show you how. The USB (Universal Serial Bus) provides a new way of interfacing low and medium speed peripherals to personal computers. That old workhorse, the RS232 connector, is fast becoming obsolete, even becoming absent in newly purchased PCs. ….(electronic schematic added 11/08)
Simple MIDI interface Tester -  Sometimes when experimenting with different soundcards and MIDI interfaces it is useful to see if there is some data going in MIDI interface.  This can be easily tested with this adapter, which converts the midi signals to visible light pulses. Just the circuit and plug it to the MIDI output of your computer.... (added 4/05)
Simple MIDI Switcher -  (electronic circuit added 4/05)
Simple MIDI Tester -  Sometimes when experimenting with different soundcards and MIDI interfaces it is useful to see if there is some data going in MIDI interface.  This can be easily tested with this adapter, which converts the midi signals to visible light pulses. Just the circuit and plug it to the MIDI output of your computer. When computer sends any midi data out, you see the LED flashing. I found this tester very useful in testing homebuilt soundcard MIDI interface.... (added 4/05)
Simple Module gives Voice to PC  -  05/26/94 EDN Design Ideas The circuit in Fig 1 uses the ISD1020A voice-record/playback chip (Information Storage Devices, San Jose, CA, (800] 825-4473] to allow an IBM PC to speak and hear. The analog part of the circuitry comes from the company's application notes.... [Design Idea by Jerzy R Chrzaszcz, Institute of Computer Science, Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland]
