Supply derives 5 and 3.3V from USB port -  20-Dec-01 Issue of EDN  The circuit in Figure 1 derives its power from a USB port and produces 5 and 3.3V supply rails for portable devices, such as digital cameras, MP3 players, and PDAs. The circuit allows the port to maintain communications while, for example, charging a lithium-ion battery. IC2 boosts the battery voltage, VBATT, to 5V, and IC3 buck-regulates that 5V output down to 3.... [Design Idea by Chad Olson, Maxim Integrated Products, Sunnyvale, CA]
The Amplified Zener -  A 13 volt Zener diode will work well for charging a 12 volt battery on Standby use. Or use a 14 volt zener a diode for a Standard 14.6 volt charge…. (circuit / schematic design added 10/06)
Two 12v Battery Isolator -  Linear Technology has just announced a neat little chip (LTC4412). It has been designed to be used in conjunction with an external P-channel power FET, to form an ideal diode function with a very low 0.05v voltage drop. The chip monitors the voltage on either side of the FET. As long as the voltage on the drain side is greater than the source side, the FET is turned on.... [Hobby Corner Circuit by Dave Johnson]
U-131 Simple Switchmode Lead-Acid Battery Charger -  U-131 APPLICATION NOTE.  The charger circuit implements a two loop control. system with the current loop operating inside the. voltage loop. During trickle-charge, bulk-charge and …(app note 6/07)
USB Li-ion Battery Charger -  This is a charger for lithium ion batteries which takes its power from the USB port of a computer. It uses the MCP73861 or MCP73863 Li-ion battery charger chip manufactured by Microchip. Microchip MCP73861 or MCP73863 are advanced, fully-integrated, single-cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer charge-management devices allow these peripherals to utilize the full power of the USB port. ….(design added 11/08)
USB Powered AA NiMH & NiCd Battery Charger -  The charger in this project is designed to charge two AA NiMH or NiCd cells of any capacity (as long as they are the same) at about 470mA. It will charge 700mAh NiCds in about 1.5 hours, 1500mAh NiMHs …. [Stefan Vorketter]
USB-Powered Lithium-Ion Battery Charger -  With a maximum power rating 5.25V/500 mA, the USB power bus is a great source for charging a single-cell Lithium-Ion battery. The circuit in Figure 1 shows how to build a USB-powered single-cell Li-Ion battery charger using National Semiconductor s LM3622 Li-Ion Battery Charger Controller. ….(design added 11/08)
Voltage Monitor Prevents Deep Discharge of Battery -  05/07/98 EDN-Design Ideas  NOTE  Page includes several designs, scroll to find this one....mCs such as the 8051 and 8096 and UARTs such as the 82510 provide hardware support for a multiprocessor asynchronous serial-communication protocol (MicroLan].  This feature is useful....(added 11/05] [Design Idea by Rolando Herrero, Instituto Tecnologico de Buenos Aires, Argentina]
Zap Adapter -  "Don't throw away those seemingly un-chargeable, rechargeable batteries; they could very well be brought back to life with the aid of this simple circuit." …. [Tony van Roon's circuit]
