Two Transistor LED Flasher -  This 1.5 volt led fasher runs more than a year on a single 'd" cell and alternately flashes 2 LEDs at about a 1 second rate. The circuit employs a 74HC14 CMOS hex inverter that will operate at very low voltages (less than 1 volt). One section is used as a squarewave oscillator (pins 1 and 2), while the others are wired to produce a short 10mS... [Bill Bowden design this one]
Two Transistor LED Flasher -  This is a classic 2 transistor astable multivibrator. Many other NPN small signal or switching transistors can be used, including 2N4401, PN2222 or 2N2222 using the circuit on the left. The circuit can also be inverted using PNP transistors such as 2N3906, 2N4403, PN2907, or 2N2907... [from Bill's Electronics Reference Library]
Two Wire DC Lamp Dimmer replaces Rheostats -  10/23/97 EDN-Design Ideas.....Originally for use in commercial trucks, a low-cost dc lamp dimmer (Figure 1]can control more than 100W of incandescent panel lighting and replaces a high-power rheostat, whose heating darkens the instrument panel...... [Design Idea by Kevan O'Meara, KO Systems, Chatsworth, CA]
Two-wire Lamp Flasher (redcircuits) -  This circuit has been designed to provide that continuous light lamps already wired into a circuit, become flashing. Simply insert the circuit between existing lamp and negative supply. Especially suited for car or panel pilot lights, this device can drive lamps up to 10W(design added 11/06)
Typical 120 Volt AC Dimmer Circuit -  This is the type of common light dimmer widely available at hardware stores and home centers. The circuit is a basic model for light dimmer for120V AC voltages.  This basic design can handle light bulbs at power range of around30W to few hundred watts (depends on construction). (added 2/03)
Typical Strobe Light Trigger Circuit -  555 based Timing circuit which triggers a SCR which controls the trigger transformer (added 4/02)
Ultra-Bright LED Lamp -  .....
Ultracapacitor powers bicycle light -  09/28/00 EDN-Design Ideas.....The circuit in Figure 1 represents a simple and inexpensive way to provide additional bicycling safety. A conventional bicycle-generator lighting system works with the circuit to provide safety lighting for several minutes after the bicycle has stopped. Energy storage uses an ultracapacitor rather than a battery to avoid the typical battery problems of limited life..... [Design Idea by Dennis Eichenberg, Parma Heights, OH]
Universal Input Linear Fluorescent Ballast using the Ir2166 -  The IR2166 Demo Board is a high efficiency, high power factor, fixed output electronic ballast designed for driving rapid start fluorescent lamp types. The design contains an EMI filter, active power factor correction and a ballast control circuit using the IR2166.  (added 3/05)
Use a CFL ballast to drive LEDs -  26-Apr-07 Issue of EDN  A CFL ballast can drive a string of as many as 64 LEDs..... [Design Idea by Christian Rausch, Unterhaching, Germany]
Using a Light Dimmer IC for AC Motor Speed Control -  This circuit example uses LS7231 Light Dimmer IC (added 6/06)
Using The 555 Timer With Photocells -  This page shows three circuits for using the 555 timer IC as a photocell controlled train detector.    Scroll down for this circuit design…..Circuit for model railroad trains….
UV Light Box -  Electroinic circuit design…. [from Harry Lythall's website]
