Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :
Incandescent Lamp Inrush Current Limiter
This circuit limits the large inrush current often associated with large
incandescent lamps. With the components shown the current is limited to 1 amp,
but it could be scaled to any desired current. (added 7/06)

Game Show Who's First Indicator Lights - The circuit above turns
on a light corresponding to the first of several buttons pressed in a
"Who's First" game. Three stages are shown but the circuit can be extended
to include any number of buttons and lamps. Three SCRs (silicon controlled
rectifiers) are connected with a common cathode resistor (50
ohm)....(circuit / schematic design added 6/06)
Half Bridge Inverter has Variable Frequency - 10/09/97 EDN-Design
Ideas.....Modern electronic ballasts require added features, such as high-frequency
preheat for filaments, nominal lamp-power control, and light-dimming capability.
Because the output inverter operates in resonant mode, you can control the power or
current of these ballasts simply by varying the switching frequency. To vary the
frequency,..... [Design Idea by Thierry Castagnet, SGS-Thomson Microelectronics,

Halogen Light Dimmer Provides Infinite Control - 03/16/00 EDN-Design
Ideas.....Modern lighting systems use halogen lamps, most of which run on 12V ac from
a transformer. The dimmer circuit in Figure 1 can change the intensity of the light
from zero to maximum. The dimmer operates at approximately 12V, unlike the usual ones
that function by adjusting the firing angle of the 110 or 220V mains supply..... EDN

Hand Clap Electronic Control - We have all seen the commercial on
TV.....CLAP, ON, CLAP, OFF, THE, CLAPPER.....well here is a circuit that will perform
that same function… [Randy Linscott]
Hand clap lamp control - Hand Clap Lamp/Appliance Control - Clap once for ON
and twice for OFF I think [Reverse engineered schematic by Stepan Novotill]
Headlight Flasher - This circuit was requested from an email. It will allow
your car headlights to flash on and off at the same time or it will cause them to
flash alternately. The circuit is based on the 555 timer. It is used in the astable
mode. The 555 timer …. [Circuit by Randy Linscott]
High Current - Crossing Light Flasher (LM556) - This following circuit shows a
simple grade crossing flasher with enough current capacity to drive 12 Volt lamps with
2 Amps current draw. The circuit could be used for open house displays, etc. The
flasher is driven by an LM556 dual time configured in a Push-Pull arrangement…..scroll
