Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :
  • POP FREE MICROPHONE ON/OFF SWITCH CIRCUIT -
This circuit uses a simple technique to eliminate the usual “pop” sound when an electret type microphone is switched on or off.   The circuit is completely passive and will work on dynamic and electret type microphones

Op-Amp Microphone Preamplifier - A high quality microphone preamplifier using a single power supply, suitable for dynamic or electret microphones. The opamp used can be any low noise, high performance type, e.g. NE5534,TL071, OPA 371 etc….(schematic added 01/2010)
Parabolic dish mic amplifier - Schematic only, no circuit description
Parabolic Microphone - An Article & Circuits for Parabolic and Shot Gun Microphones  ….(design added 12/08)
Perimeter Monitor - Using a single cable such as speaker wire or doorbell cable, this circuit can be remotely positioned, for example, at the bottom of a garden or garage, and used to detect all sound in that area. The cable can be buried in a hosepipe or duct and is concealed out of sight. The mic is an ordinary dynamic mic insert....[Circuit design by Andy Collison]
Pop Free Microphone ON/OFF Switch Circuit - This circuit uses a simple technique to eliminate the usual “pop” sound when an electret type microphone is switched on or off.   The circuit is completely passive and will work on dynamic and electret type microphones. …. [Hobby Corner Circuit by Dave Johnson]

Portable Microphone Preamplifier - High headroom input circuitry. 9V Battery powered. (added 6/06)
PreAmplifier Computer Microphone - This circuit was submitted by Lazar Pancic from Yugoslavia. The sound card for a PC generally has a microphone input, speaker output and sometimes line inputs and outputs. The mic input is designed for dynamic microphones only in impedance range of 200 to 600 ohms. Lazar has adapted the sound card to use a common electret microphone using this circuit....(electronic design added 6/07)
PreAmplifier for Microphone or guitar use - suitable for guitar or microphone use....
Radio Shack Pressure Zone Microphone PZM Modifications - (electronic schematic / circuit added 4/02)
Simple FM Transmitter Schematic -  There is no thrill like the thrill you get from operating equipment you have built yourself. If you have never built a project from a magazine before, let this be your first--you'll see how much satisfaction and fun you can have!… [Tony van Roon]
Simple microphone preAmplifier #2 - This is a simple microphone preamplifier circuit which you can use between your microphone and stereo amplifier.  This circuit amplifier microphone suitable for use with normal home stereo amplifier line/CD/aux/tape inputs.  This microphone preamplifier can take both dynamic and electret microphone(added 4/05)
Simple Stereo Electret Microphone PreAmplifier - (circuit / schematic design added 6/06)
Sony C 37Condenser Microphone - information with circuit diagram (added 5/02)
Standard Microphone Preamp Input Circuitry - AS016 Jenson Transformer Application Note  (app note 04/03/02)
Stereo Electret Microphone PreAmplifier - (circuit / schematic design added 6/06)
The Big-E Stereo Parabolic Microphone - This device is a stereo amplifier for a high sensitivity stereo parabolic microphone. It can be used for listening to distant sounds. Typical parabolic microphones are monophonic, this unit has a stereo audio path that helps produce more realistic sounding audio. The Big-E can be used with headphones or as an audio source for a stereo tape recorder....[(C) G. Forrest Cook January 1, 2005]
Theory & Construction of MIC Splitters - (electronic schematic / circuit added 4/02)
Tube Microphone Preamp - (circuit / schematic design added 6/06)
Underwater microphone - Schematic only, no circuit description
Using ECM Mic Inserts - This page describes how to use or connect and use 2 and 3 terminal electret condenser microphones (ECM's). The bottom section shows the connections and how to substitute from one type to another….(Circuit by Andy Collison added 03/03) [Written by Andy Collison]
Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamp/Direct Box Project - from January1997 EQ Column, includes phantom power supply (added 5/02)
Variable Amplifier Impedance - Figure 1 shows two amplifiers (shown as opamps), with (a) being conventional voltage drive, and (b) is current drive. The output impedances are in the order of zero ohms and infinite ohms in each case (this IS a theoretical discussion at the moment!). The gain will appear to be exactly the same for each into an 8 ohm resistive load,....
Voice-Over Circuit - This is a circuit where a microphone and preamp circuit (voice circuit) have priority over any other audio signal. You can think of this as a one way intercom, if the main amplifier is used for listening to music, then when the push to talk switch is pressed, the amplifier is switched to the voice signal....(added 06/07) [Andy Collison]
Wireless microphone - Schematic only, no circuit description
